For Future Leaders recipient Sage Toews, the scholarship has given her more time to pursue leadership and service opportunities while studying at Kansas State University.
“Scholarship opportunities help alleviate the pressing need to work long hours to support my education and, in turn, allow me to dedicate more time to leadership, involvement and service,” Toews said. “In my time at Kansas State University so far, the chance to network and get involved outside of my classes has proved to be incredibly beneficial. The connections I make now will undoubtedly serve me well as I work toward a career in food and agricultural policy, a field largely dependent on relationships.”
Since partnering with FFA in 1985, Tractor Supply has contributed more than $27 million to scholarships, grants, educational experiences and other programs. Future Leaders is one part of that partnership. Tractor Supply also supports hands-on learning in FFA chapters and helps students attend the National FFA Convention & Expo.
“We are beyond grateful to our customers and local communities who rallied behind these students to help us reach our goal,” said Joe Fell, vice president of merchandise operations at Tractor Supply and a member of the National FFA Foundation’s Sponsors’ Board. “Every donation is a direct investment in the future of rural America. Seeing our neighbors unite to remove financial barriers for these promising young leaders reminds us just how powerful this partnership is, and we can’t wait to see the incredible impact these scholarship recipients will make.”
Education – Investing in the next generation of agriculture
Launched in 2022, FFA Future Leaders awards $5,000 scholarships to students attending two-year programs or trade schools and $10,000 scholarships to FFA members pursuing agriculture-related studies in four-year programs. The program has supported more than 500 students preparing for careers that include farming, welding, veterinary medicine, engineering and agricultural policy.
Tractor Supply also supports learning in FFA chapters through Grants for Growing. Customers contribute by purchasing a paper FFA emblem at checkout in stores or online, and chapters can apply for grants of up to $5,000 for projects such as new facilities, equipment and curriculum materials. Since the program began in 2016, it has awarded nearly 2,000 grants affecting more than 183,000 students nationwide.
Convention – Learning beyond the classroom
Tractor Supply helps FFA members attend the National FFA Convention & Expo, where students can learn from peers and explore opportunities in agriculture. This year, the following FFA chapters received travel assistance to attend the convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 21-24:
- Bassett FFA in Virginia
- Cookeville FFA in Cookeville, Tennessee
- Covington FFA in Covington, Tennessee
- Golden Valley FFA in Bakersfield, California
- Hendersonville FFA in Hendersonville, Tennessee
- Lebanon FFA in Lebanon, Tennessee
- Nettleton FFA in Mississippi
- Russell-Tyler-Ruthton FFA in Minnesota
“Attending the National FFA Convention for the first time is something I have looked forward to since joining FFA. I’m excited to meet students from across the country, experience national competitions and learn even more about agriculture,” said Ava MacKorell, FFA reporter and junior at Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, Tenn. “I’m incredibly thankful to Tractor Supply for helping provide the funding that made this opportunity possible for our chapter and other FFA students. Experiences like this encourage me to keep learning and pursuing my dream of becoming an equine nutritionist or equine veterinarian.”
At the convention, Tractor Supply hosts an expo booth and participates in panel discussions. For the past 12 years, the Company has also sold a limited-edition convention T-shirt, with proceeds distributed to FFA chapters across the country to support their programs and activities.
The partnership continues in communities year-round. Tractor Supply team members welcome local FFA chapters into stores for activities and fundraisers that bring students and their neighbors together.
